FIGHTING for THE RESULTS YOU DESERVE

DUI risks: Are you part of the college drinking scene?

by | Aug 29, 2018 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Whether this is the start of your freshman year at a Colorado college or you are months away from walking the stage to receive your diploma, it’s always a good idea to review your current circumstances to see if you’re on track to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself. College life can be a lot of fun, but also poses many risks for personal health and legal problems as well.

Such problems often arise in conjunction with binge drinking. Off the top of your head, you can probably list at least two or three possible negative consequences of this college-life activity. You might say that binge drinking causes whopping hangovers, makes it difficult to study and complete your work on time or drains your pocketbook because alcohol can be expensive. Don’t forget possible drunk driving charges if you get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.

Why do so many college students binge drink?

Perhaps you are at least 21 years old and simply enjoy getting together with friends in your free time to kick back, relax and take a break from scholastic stress. There is not necessarily anything legally wrong with that. However, binge drinking often leads to trouble. The following list shows top reasons college students often cite when they answer surveys about why they participate in this activity:

  • Many students say that pounding down a six pack or more of cold ones helps them relieve stress.
  • Drinking apparently makes some people feel less socially shy.
  • Many college students say they don’t really have another reason for drinking except that they think it is fun.
  • There are others, however, who say they want to fit in or their friends pressure them into participating in binge drinking games.

If you are suffering from alcohol addiction in college, you are definitely not alone in your struggle. It’s always a good idea to reach out for support through the resources your campus officials can likely provide to help you get life back on track. Facing DUI charges can ruin your college career.

What if it happens?

Just because prosecutors file charges against you does not mean a judge will convict you. There are often extenuating circumstances and support networks that you can use to your advantage when trying to protect your rights, preserve your freedom and avoid conviction.

Many college students have gone on to accomplish their goals after facing DUI charges because they knew where to seek support and had guidance in building strong defenses.
